Entering the Deep Forest...
Deep in the forest, a hut stands on chicken legs - will you enter?
Baba Yaga is perhaps the most complex figure in Slavic folklore - neither fully villain nor hero, she is a force of nature, a guardian of thresholds, and a tester of souls.
Her hut stands deep in the darkest part of the forest, surrounded by a fence topped with human skulls. The hut itself rests on enormous chicken legs and constantly spins, so one must know the magic words to make it stop: "Turn your back to the forest, your front to me!"
Inside, Baba Yaga lies stretched across the hut, her nose touching the ceiling. She flies through the air in a mortar, using a pestle to steer and a broom to sweep away her tracks. Those who seek her out must prove themselves worthy through wit, courage, and humility.
